Daily Devotional Day 45

First, we must consider why Satan chose to come to Eve with a question. Before we look at the content of the question, we have to look at why the question. What do questions do? What effect do they have on us? They compel us to respond. In other words, they put pressure on us to answer and think on things that we normally wouldn't. We truly can say, "I would not have thought of that without being influenced to or asked to respond to that." These questions distract us and engage our minds without God's influence. They can be an unwelcome, unexpected invasion of our mind. They work off the principal and power of compulsion or pressure from the outside into our souls.

Satan knew his influence would be useless until he first drew Eve away from the voice of God. He used a question to disguise the temptation. He had an important purpose for doing this. What was it? He knew that without God's input, Eve would, like all of us, make mistakes. When we try to interpret the information we receive without the Holy Spirit, we run the risk of misinterpreting the truth and missing the mark!

In our fast-paced lives, we, too, are pushed to answer questions posed to us. We must slow down, pause, and ask the Holy Spirit to give us the interpretation of the question. This takes attention, intention, and practice!

Ask the Holy Spirit to bring to your attention when outside voices are pushing you to respond. Ask Him to give you an intentional inward gaze into your spirit so that you may hear His perspective on the input. Ask Him to help you practice these things daily.
