Before Satan's question, Eve had never had the pressure to act independently of God's voice. Through the pressure to answer the question, she was over stimulated in her mind and emotions and overwhelmed and clouded in her spirit. It captured her will. The result was that she was confused without God's voice and could not answer Satan properly.
She responded immediately but incorrectly. She was separated from God and without His truth for the first time in her life. It would have been better if she waited, but like us so often, she was rushed into acting on her own.
Satan's question was full of errors. The most important fact is that it questioned the character of God. A simple accusation that God's command to not eat of this great tree was inconsiderate. This accusation was subtle but with a purpose. Why would God create a tree and forbid her to eat of it? Something must be wrong with God's character.
It questioned the honest character and motives of God. Satan's influence always questions God's goodness. It's hard to have faith with so many questions coming at us.
The main point is that her first mistake was not the wrong answer she gave. Many people have spent a lot of time on that fact. The point is that she acted in an independent way. She depended on her own strength and that was her first mistake.

Ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of the goodness of God.
Meditate on His goodness. Remember Satan's tactic is to make you question His character. He waits for us to be tired, weary, overwhelmed, going through a trial, angry, prideful. He often rides in during our most vulnerable times. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you when you are vulnerable to his lies and how to guard against him.
