Daily Devotional Day 54

Eve's mind first was effected from the outside, through her five senses and she acted independently. She fell from her place with God. Then Satan went for Adam through Eve's influence. When she spoke to Adam, she distracted Adam by using her voice to put pressure on him to act independently, just as she did.

Eve influenced Adam to believe that God had somehow failed to give them access to something good. It attacked God's goodness. She inferred that God had possibly withheld something good from them. This happens to us in life, all the time. However, God instructs us to believe that, "no good thing does God withhold from those who love Him" ( Psalms 84:11). It is up to us to resist the devil.

Adam was not beguiled as Eve was. Adam deliberately sinned by using his own will in an independent way. It was Adams conscious decision to act independently in his natural life. It was his own will and strength that caused him to sin. He placed more value on Eve's influence, than on what God had commanded him. He did not obey God's command not to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Sin comes when we think there is something to be had that God, for some reason, has withheld from us.

A strategy of the devil is to get you to question God's goodness. In order to resist the devil, it is important for you to encourage yourself in the Lord.

Today, write down all your blessings, a list of things you can be grateful for. Meditate on the goodness of the Lord as a daily practice. In all things be thankful. Remembering God's goodness and having an attitude of gratitude are building blocks to a life worth living.
