Adam like Eve was responding to outside influence, but it was Eve's influence. He sinned in his mind and his emotions and then his will. He allowed his love (emotional life) for Eve to influence his emotions, then his thoughts and it eventually captured his will. It caused him to violate God's directions. He put his love for Eve before his love for God. He was not beguiled, as Eve was.
That's why the Bible states that the curse came through Adam's sin not Eve's. Eve was not separated from God by her own decision as Adam was. There is no sin in being beguiled; there's just bad consequences and pain. It was Adam's sin not Eve's that alienated us from God. Both being beguiled and sinning have serious consequences. Ignorance is not bliss and willful ignorance is sin.
The sin of Adam was not just independence from God but a conscious decision to rebel. He was not only self dependent, but willfully independent in his actions. That is why it is called Adam's sin. That is why Jesus was called the second man and last Adam. Jesus reversed the willful sin of Adam and became obedient even to death on the cross.
Our emotional life can be influenced through outside stimuli. This can lead to wrong thinking and action.
The Holy Spirit wants to influence our emotional life from the inside out. Ask Him to first help you see what stirs you up emotionally. Ask for His revelation into the root of your fear, anger, sadness, depression etc. Then ask Him to empower you and give you self control over your emotional life.

He will empower our will, give us truth, and right thinking. Our spirit man empowered by the Holy Spirit can take control of our natural man, our emotional life, and our thought life! This is truly the life worth living.
