Daily Devotional Day 60

Faith is work indeed. Faith is trust and hope in the unseen. It's not enough to satisfy our need for security and direction. Somehow we know deep down inside, like the rich man in the Bible, that we lack something. We must ask the same question he did, " what do I still lack?" (Matthew 19:16 ) The rich man's five senses, no matter how successful, were not enough to affirm him or prove he was complete.

For the same reason, we need an abiding relationship with God to be successful. Faith senses the unseen and unheard things not experienced by our natural senses. Many are like the rich man and can't enter the door of the spirit through faith. Jesus told the rich man to get rid of his material possessions and trust Him in order to gain spiritual gifts. We, like the rich man, must unload all material things that give us a false sense of security. Material success and relying on self must go. We must replace those with trusting Him. It takes faith to do this.

The material world and spiritual world are at odds.

Are there material things getting in the way of your faith walk? Ask the Holy Spirit to tell you what you must let go. Are you uncomfortable with the feeling of loss of control?

In what areas of life do you find it easy to have faith and in what areas are you lacking faith.

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you grow in faith and trust in Him.
