Daily Devotional Day 84

The children of Israel were slaves in Egypt for 400 years. They had no culture or laws of their own. On their journey through the leadership of Moses, they were desperate for direction and guidance from God. They needed leadership to get to the promised land. God used the law given to Moses all through the wilderness journey to guide them.

But the law was not meant to be the end, but a guide to the future promise. It was not meant to be kept as the end of God's plan. It was meant to bring His people to Christ.

Too often, the church today is satisfied with preaching the principles of the law as the end of the Christian life and lack the ability to bring people to Christ. The children of Israel needed the law as a guide from the outside simply because their inside moral compass was not calibrated to God's character. The law was meant to be their guide until they could understand and take on God's character from the inside out through the complete transformation through Jesus Christ. They needed to know what God required of them in order for Him to bless and protect them along the way to the promised land.

Along the way, the Israelites often resorted back to their Egyptian roots forsaking God's commands. Even while Moses was absent on the mountain receiving the ten commandments, they drifted off course. They used the only standard they knew to guide them. They used the standards that they learned in Egypt. They formed a golden calf to worship. And Aaron, the one appointed in Moses' stead, the one who represented their leader, led them into that error.

Thankfully, Moses came back with something better than a golden calf. God revealed truth to His people through the Mosaic covenant and the law given to Moses on Mount Sinai. God's instructions to Moses included the Tabernacle design. He gave Moses both the ten commandments and the design of the Tabernacle. Both are important in our journey. In other words, we all need God's law to guide us and lead us to Him. The law shows us what His character is like, so we may find Him and know His purpose for our lives. But the Tabernacle represents the transformation of the believer. This is the reason to study the Tabernacle as a blueprint of the human being.

Meditate on this, "All that is done without God's guidance is vanity of vanity."

Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you today!
