DEVOTIONAL DAY 65

It is possible to be faithfully wrong. A life disconnected from God's influence can be religious and still full of our natural strength. Instead of seeking God's voice, like Adam and Eve, we are making fig leaves to cover our nakedness. Our fig leaves are nothing more than the religious work that we do. It can manifest in any group of believers.

Working hard in church covers up the real problem we have. We try to live for God from our own strength. This will eventually lead us to failure, whether we are religious in nature or not. We think we have arrived at a spiritual life because our leaders tell us that we have. They measure us by our activities for God. They do not look at our ability to rely on God's strength. We are measured by our outside success and not our inward relationship and dependence on God, His life and power through the Holy Spirit.

At best it is a mix between a spiritual and a natural religious life. If we strive to serve the Lord in our own strength, we will burn out, become judgemental and offended easily. When we serve in His strength, led by the Holy Spirit we have joy, peace, love, endurance, patience and self control! If you are weary it may be that you are operating from the wrong power source.

Are you weary, offended or burnt out?

Ask the Holy Spirit two questions.

1. Am I in the will of God? Am I doing what He desires?

2. Am I relying on His power to carry out His will?

When we are in the will of God and working in His strength, our burden is light and we have rest.
